2D Design Week 2

Creating a Background
Tuesday July 26 2011

Today we are choosing a background for our Blog.  They must fit the criteria for Shape, Media and Style.

Warwick Brown Design 2011 Blog:

SHAPE - Star

MEDIA – Adobe Illustrator CS5

STYLE – Custom Brush with distorted curves & colours

I chose to use the star symbol and duplicate it making different stars in different colours and sizes then I made it into a custom brush that distorted the stars and spread them across the screen.

Warwick Brown Exhibition 2011 Blog:

SHAPE – Rectangular Background with Circular/spherical Science Symbol

MEDIA – Adobe Illustrator CS5

STYLE – Funky Colourful New Age Fun

I chose to use two symbols from the symbols palette. One Colourful rectangular gradient of colour to fill the page then stretched over a scientific symbol that represents electrons flying around the outside of an atom. This makes it look fun and colourful.

We also watched a couple of YouTube videos on Theo Jansen and his 3D Beach wind sculptures. He is part of the worldwide community called Technology, Entertainment & Design (TED), which brings together worldwide groups, and individuals that share interest/ideas in these three disciplines.
I found Theo Jansen’s inventions to be very intricate yet simple in design execution. He really uses the elements of wind and water into his sculptures. He is very passionate about his work and believes the sculptures are real animals roaming the beach. He hopes one day they will become self-sufficient. I think he would make really good human bionic legs based on those used in his work.
