Today we took our favourite 3D designs and had to adapt them to a sporting community and a fashion label. We then had to post our designs on our blogs for our class to rate out of ten in dfferent areas.
PRACTICAL – Design Perspectives
30 mins:
Based on your favourite 3D design, draft and label 2 variations in your blog
• Design 01: Design in a style that appeals to a community sports group
Baseball Club Coffee Table
Reference (image above): WB Baseball club coffee table draft
• Design 02: Design in a style that appeals to a fashion label
Fashion First Catwalk Coffee Table
Reference (image above): WB Fashion First coffee table draft
• Draft in your blog with hand drawings and notes
• Give each work a NAME and DESCRIPTION (max 50 words)
Baseball Club Coffee Table – I wanted a simulated baseball field made out of felt with a genuine baseball half submerged in the centre of the table. It is to have all the signatures from the club’s most famous winning team. I also wanted four small modified baseball bats inverted for the legs of the table.
Fashion First Catwalk Coffee Table – I wanted a glossy white Catwalk/Runway style for the lid of the table with mini chrome lights down the longer edges of the table. I wanted cat-tail style legs for the base to simulate cats

Commentary
This clip is about Blog tips for design especially in the area of time management. It originally looked like it wasn’t that interesting but getting further into it I learnt a few things. The clip is from a seminar and the presenters recommend that for your first blog you shouldn’t stress about and blog a lot of information. Just to get something down with a few images will generally suffice. They say to keep a camera or camera phone with you to take pictures on the fly. One of the best ways to retain a thought is to write it down and save a draft that you can eventually turn into a blog post at a later date. A light hearted look at blogs and progress yet very informative
Reflection
Once again our 2D class went overtime and we had no time for 3D. I would like to give the same amount of time for both so we need to make sure we adhere to the mini timeline outlined in the class handouts. I found it challenging to design my coffee table for sporting and fashion so they became more of a tribute to their field.
For your first design I give you;
ReplyDelete1. Accuracy in addressing the brief 7
2. Immediate visual appeal 6
3. Cross generational appeal 5
4. Artistic depth 6
For second design I rate it:
1. Accuracy in addressing the brief 4
2. Immediate visual appeal 4
3. Cross generational appeal 2
4. Artistic depth 3
You should pursue a career in set design - movies / fashion / photo shoots / theatre....Great ideas and suitably wacky.
