Week 04 – 2D

Tuesday August 9, 2011

At the start of our class today we all picked the best design from our three designs for our exhibition on last week’s blog.  We then put everyone’s design on the whiteboard and voted for the best two designs. This can be seen on the right-hand side of the white-board on the image below:

oTwo Experiments
oPros & Cons
oChoosing & Refusing

Reference (Image Above): WB CDU iSecure iPhone app.jpg

This is my favourite design for 2011. It is the Icon cover for a theoretical iPhone app that protects your iPhone data by encryption. I like it because it is simple and has high contrast that creates a big visual impact.

Experiment 1   - I would like to see whether a notification can be placed over the icon once it is on the iPhone menu screen to inform the user that there are a number of updates or new personal data to synchronise and encrypt.

Experiment 2 – I am wondering if a thumb-print can be utilised as opposed to a password protection to prevent unauthorized access.
Pros – Excellent way to protect vital personal information such as pin numbers, passwords, bank details, etc
Cons – Someone will always develop a way to crack the system or if the program malfunctions, the data could be lost
Choosing & Refusing – I choose to keep the drastic black and yellow colour scheme as it is bold and striking. I would like to keep a Serif font to keep the traditional strength and integrity.

Corel Draw Logo Layout Design for T-shirt Printing Process By Richie

Commentary

I have never used Corel Draw before but this was a reasonably good insight into how the T-Shirt design process starts. They use part of a logo of a bird from a food service design and basically trace over it with the Corel program so it can be recognised by the software. He then transfers the image along with his name onto a specific T-Shirt Art board. There are a couple of songs used and an audio over that is music only. I found that you could see what he was doing but trying to follow the small steps was very challenging. If you just want the overall gist of the process this is good however if you want step-by-step how-to’s, then you will be disappointed as there is no verbal communication and a lot of it is sped up.

Reflection:

This week we had a lot of group tasks. I find that they can get out of hand and off on tangents. We kept going over the time allocated for the different practicals. I really wanted to write my blog during class yet I found this to be too hard today. It was good that everyone had some great ideas but we need to make sure we stay on track .
