Week 10 – 3D

 Tuesday 27th September 2011

Today is the day the prototypes are to be brought in to show the class. My prototype had to be disassembled because it was $150 worth of parts however I was allowed to make a video of it and many pictures as seen in last week’s post. I am deciding whether to use a valve box lid to keep with the irrigation theme or keep with the perspex.

PART 1 – 20 mins

The GROUP verbally evaluates each member’s 2D Exhibition work
Scribe writes a summary paragraph on the 2 points below for each member

1. Effectiveness of design process
2. Effectiveness of concept communication

PART 2 - 10 mins Blog
Each student post the group results in your blog with images and descriptive text

Designs scored out of ten

If I had more evidence of a design process i would have scored higher for my coffee table

Josie has a few ideas still to work out before she makes her typography and logo a 3D element

Billie's 3D prototype will look great in a frame that compliments her tree art

Sunita's hut looks great from the photos and is learning the different ways to work with wood

Communication Skills Training: Speak to Be Heard

Commentary

It is important to communicate your idea effectively when presenting it to an audience. I chose this clip because it gives some good tips on how to and how not to talk about your concept. It is important to speak clearly, go through the main points in your head before the delivery, keep it simple, don’t mumble or bellow. The lady giving advice is actually selling her advice as a product where you can later attend one of her workshops but she is effectively giving you enough clear and interesting information to learn something and want to know even more.

Reflection

I would have liked to bring my prototype in, however the final product should be more expensive in parts yet I should only need to borrow them for the duration of the exhibition and return them as un-damaged stock. I just have to make sure my lid will fasten tightly without the need for gluing or screws. It would have been great if everyone brought their physical prototypes in. We can definitely see evidence of everyone's designs and they are on track. We all have to make sure that we over estimate the time our work can be brought into fruition so we can have everything finished on time.
