Week 08 – 2D

Tuesday 13th September 2011

Today we did some fine tuning on our exhibition logo designs for final judging.

GROUP EXERCISE – Concept Realisation

Selecting:
materials
tools
equipment
Discuss your choice of the above as a group – give reasons

Business Logo - MB Irrigation

Materials – Badges, Digital print, invoices (paper), ink stamps
Tools – Illustrator, Print Shops, Embroidery Shops, Sign Makers
Equipment – Work Uniforms, Ute Signage, Advertisement Signs

All these applications must be considered when choosing the final logo so it is able to be applied onto various surfaces and maintain virtually the same visual effect.

GROUP EXERCISE – Concept Realisation

PRODUCING A RANGE - 15 mins
Design Illustrator
Clear rendition of 3 headline variations for Exhibition 2011
BLOG - 15 mins
Each student post the group results in your blog with images and descriptive text

Draft 1

Reference (Image above): WB Exhib wk8 draft1

I wanted a more bold look and the number ten squared to span across and take up the space more. I kept the white stroke to complement the frame and the font has been changed from the original.

Draft 2

Reference (Image above): WB Exhib wk8 draft2

I made my own variation similar to the Papyrus font by taking small chunks out of all the numbers and letters to give a weathered appearance similar to how things in remote areas get when they are exposed to the harsh sun.

Draft 3

Reference (Image above): WB Exhib wk8 draft3

I carried across the ten squared element with the Papyrus font from a previous draft to see what it would look like

Draft 4

Reference (Image above): WB Exhib wk8 draft4

I kept the white stroke to mimic the border and give a look similar to an indigenous painting in which they use to tell a story from the outback/hotlands

Logo Design Evolution

Commentary

This clip shows exactly as the title states. The clip only runs for 1min30secs but moulds many successful corporate brands from their old logos to their current ones. You can see how they have evolved in shape, colour and font. Some reflect the originals whereas others are completely different. This allows us to explore totally different designs to our already existing ideas or mould our originals accordingly.

Reflection

Today’s class saw everyone breathe new life into their designs through trial and error. We all aren’t completely happy with our designs but reside in the fact that we are still developing our ideas, skills and creativity.

  1. Good display of initiative making your own fake Papyrus font. Now you have the capability to do that to a whole variety of fonts - and you could experiment with different cut-out shapes / textures. Well done. Your ability to describe your design process is coming along in leaps and bounds.

The logo evolution clip is an eye-opener too. Notice how a lot of them start out complex and end up in a very pure and distilled state?

    Great blog again.
